MAT Addiction Treatment For Residents of Houston
Detoxing from drugs and alcohol can sometimes require more than just quitting. It can be physically uncomfortable, painful, and even life-threatening. Getting professional help through a Medically Assisted Treatment (MAT) Program is a safer and easier way to get through detox.
At Resurgence, we offer a MAT program that combines behavioral health, dual diagnosis, and clinical care for a whole-patient-centered treatment, which will set the foundation for long-term, sustained recovery.
Resurgence is the top-rated MAT addiction treatment center for people who live in Houston. Medically assisted treatment (MAT) is an integrated treatment, created to treat the biological and the behavioral components of addiction, while at the same time helping the patient overcome their physical withdrawal symptoms.

What is MAT?
Medically assisted treatment (MAT) is a specific detox and rehabilitation treatment plan, that combines the use of medications, counseling, behavioral therapy, and clinical care, to make the process of coming off opioids and/or alcohol, to be as safe and comfortable as possible.
Medications like methadone and buprenorphine are given as maintenance treatment in prescription amounts under the supervision of a doctor. They are used to satisfy the body’s cravings for the drug, but without any euphoric high, to safely stop withdrawal symptoms without creating a new addiction. In this way, they are successful in helping reduce the risk of relapse.
MAT focuses on the whole patient, rather than only the physical symptoms of withdrawal. Because of this, it has been proven to improve a patient’s survival rate, and their ability to live an independent, self-directed life, without the use of drugs or alcohol.
What to expect during MAT?
At Resurgence, we have the option of a Medically Assisted Treatment, which is the combination of medications, counseling, and behavioral therapies to tackle the biological and the behavioral components of addiction, while helping you overcome physical withdrawal symptoms.
During MAT, the first step is detox. Everybody’s detox is different. Symptoms vary from person to person depending on the substance, family history, mental health factors, genetics, and the length of the addiction, as well as medical factors.
A person coming off opioids of any kind, including prescription pain pills like Vicodin, Hydrocodone, morphine, oxycodone, codeine, and heroin, may experience serious withdrawal symptoms. These can include pain, body aches, fatiguge, and nausea. They will likely also experience intense cravings for the drug.
To counteract these symptoms, an FDA-approved, prescription amount of medication can be used to satisfy cravings without giving the euphoric high of an opioid like heroin. This will safely stop the withdrawal symptoms, with professional medical supervision around the clock. Under a doctor’s care, and at the right amounts, these medications will not create a new addiction, and they are successful in reducing the risk of relapse.
Throughout this period, a therapy and counseling program will begin to help with emotional and mental healing. This will continue into one of our inpatient rehabilitation programs. Generally, the inpatient rehab timeline is 30-, 60-, or 90-days, followed by an extended outpatient and alumni program, which can last as long as you need it to. Our goal is for you to feel confident, supported, and ready to take each step as it comes, with new coping strategies, new sober connections, and a new outlook on life.
