Alcohol Detox Program | Alcohol Treatment Centers
The first step in an alcohol treatment program is to stop drinking. Every alcoholism treatment regimen should be supervised by a qualified alcohol detox specialist, to remain safe, and avoid discomfort. The severity of withdrawal symptoms depends on many factors, like alcohol consumption, body weight, metabolism, and other variables like genetics. Our alcohol rehab centers are here to help you or a loved one through our full continuum of care at our treatment facility. High-quality alcoholism centers in Austin like Resurgence have medically supervised treatment programs. Our medical director along with our medical staff will serve as resources through the full continuum of care.
The Resurgence treatment program takes place in a home-like environment. During the intake procedure, our medical team screens for physical and mental health problems as well, to determine whether a dual diagnosis treatment is necessary. We also review drug, medical, and psychiatric history, so we can create a realistic and functional long-term recovery plan for the patient.
At Resurgence, during medical detox, clients are monitored by clinical staff to make sure no severe withdrawal symptoms are occurring. There are medication options that can be administered as needed to ensure patients remain as comfortable as possible. The goal is that no one should suffer.

Drug Detox & Drug Treatment Program
Medical drug detox is the first stage of drug addiction treatment. It is important to be monitored by clinical staff during this time, as the body adjusts to the stopped drug use. Everybody’s detox symptoms vary, depending on the drug, the length of the addiction, family history, genetic makeup, and medical and mental health factors. A supervised detox keeps patients safe, with the support of medical staff and counselors. At Resurgence, our goal is to make the detox centers available to everyone, as a safe, welcoming facility with a skilled trained team of staff members, so that no one should suffer.
Alcohol Rehab For Austin Residents (What Is It And What Is It Like?)
At Resurgence, the first steps in alcohol rehabilitation are our intake procedures, and then detox.
At intake, the patient is interviewed, and we will review medical, psychiatric, and drug histories, as well as screen for other health and psychiatric issues, in case there is a need for a dual diagnosis treatment plan. This will help select a long-term, realistic recovery plan to best suit your needs.
During detox, you will stay in our home-like cabins, with 24/7 clinical staff on-site. Licensed nurses are available during the day, to medically oversee alcohol detox. Alcohol detox requires professional care and therapy to reduce the chance of hazardous side effects, and medications can be administered to help with comfort. Therapy and counseling are introduced early in the detox process to give emotional support, and help achieve the best results.
After alcohol detox, there are options available, but it is recommended to remain in our inpatient rehab program, where multiple types of therapies, activities, and training occur to gain skills to live an independent, sober life. Once you are ready to move on, we offer multiple outpatient options, as well as affiliated sober living houses. You will be supported every step of the way.

Drug Rehab Austin | Best Drug Treatment Centers Near Me
Almost any addictive substance that creates a chemical dependence requires a detox for recovery. Timelines and symptoms will vary, depending on which drug you are detoxing from, the length of addiction, and your individual history. Detox can be uncomfortable, and sometimes dangerous, with acute physical symptoms, like tremors, flu-like symptoms, and body aches, as well as psychological symptoms like depression.
At Resurgence, we first screen for physical and mental health issues and conduct an in-depth interview, to formulate a personalized, long-term plan. We then provide medical and psychological therapy, supported with prescribed addiction treatment medications to help manage withdrawal symptoms. Once detox is done, we come up with a rehabilitation plan.
The preferred approach for detox treatment is medical detox. You will stay in a Resurgence facility, and be given medications to manage withdrawal symptoms. This is especially important for those addicted to a substance that can lead to severe withdrawal symptoms. A supervised detox safely manages symptoms like anxiety, depression, hallucinations, restlessness, and more. Some unsupervised withdrawal symptoms can be life-threatening if untreated.
Resurgence also provides Social Detoxification, where withdrawal from drugs happens without medication, but is monitored by our medical staff in case of an emergency. You or your loved one would be supported, progress and health are checked, but there is no medication given to handle symptoms.
Those dealing with chronic pain are considered on a case-by-case basis. Our inpatient treatment program is designed to optimize relapse prevention. Our drug and alcohol treatment treatments are done in a luxurious and medically safe environment. Our sage recovery specialists can help you or a loved one who has suffered from chronic relapse as well. Our holistic approach treats the entire person in Austin TX area. Young adults also can benefit from our treatment center, as well as those that are older adults like, adult men and adult women. Our medical director sets the stage for how our treatment program in Austin TX is run and our success rate among chronic relapsers is among the best in the addiction recovery industry.
With both approaches, Resurgence strives to provide a safe, comfortable, and caring environment for patients to navigate their detox. Since everybody’s requirements differ, the process is personalized to improve effectiveness.
Detox is a short-term solution, whereas our comprehensive rehabilitation programs will get to the root of addiction, creating long-term recovery success, where strategies to sustain sobriety successfully are learned. Resurgence offers a variety of therapies in a scenic, peaceful atmosphere. Most residential rehab programs are 30, 60, or 90 days long, and will significantly reduce the risk of relapse.

How Long Is Detox?
The timeline of detox depends on your individual health and history. While in detox, symptoms may show up two to six hours after your last use, peak at around 72 hours, and last for seven to ten days. The timeline also depends on which substance you are detoxing from because every drug affects the body differently.
Medical detoxification is important, as it is the safest and most comfortable method. Stopping drug or alcohol use suddenly can be dangerous if not supervised under medical care, as the body can experience shock symptoms. At Resurgence, clients are monitored around the clock by clinical staff to ensure serious withdrawal symptoms don’t happen. The goal is to allow everybody to be as comfortable as possible, with the option of medications being administered if needed.
How Long Is Rehab?
There are many paths you can take at Resurgence. We offer 30-, 60-, and 90-day options for residential, inpatient treatment. Our center is close to downtown Austin. At Resurgence, the focus is on your comfort level. Clients at Resurgence are always encouraged to remain in treatment until they feel ready to move on.
Residential treatment is beneficial, as you will be surrounded by a like-minded community in a new environment, away from the day-to-day stressors of life. The focus is on healing and recovery, with access to a variety of therapy options. A longer stay at the Resurgence facility will lower the risk of relapse.

Additional Therapies And Addiction Treatments Available:
Resurgence offers multiple additional therapies and addiction treatments, including:
Outpatient Services & Treatment
Outpatient Treatment in Austin TX is ideal for people who cannot leave their jobs, families, or other important commitments. The outpatient options are also beneficial for people who have completed their residential treatment and would like continued support and guidance from our staff. All outpatient programs will give you the skills you need to get sober, remain sober, and take back control of your life.
For each outpatient plan, the treatment program will include an assessment, professional interventions, education, process groups, individual/couple/family sessions, and up to seven days a week of outpatient care, depending on individual needs. You can visit any Resurgence center for a few hours, or at scheduled intervals to attend our evidence-based support groups like SMART Recovery, or a more traditional and spiritual 12-Step program.
The ideal candidate for an outpatient program is not experiencing physical withdrawal symptoms, as that level of withdrawal requires medical supervision. Some chronic addictions will require long-term rehab within the facility, before moving to an outpatient program. Young adults, as well as older adults who are young adults at heart, love our treatment programs.
Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)
The Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) is recommended to people who want to transition back to everyday life, as an intermediary step between residential rehab and outpatient rehab. It is best suited for those who have completed our medically assisted drug or alcohol detox program, and our residential program. This program works for those who are highly motivated in their recovery and are ready to use their new skills in an unstructured setting.
This program gives a balance between clinical care and personal responsibility. Resurgence provides strong support, therapy, and guidance from expert staff during the transition, with more structured real-life challenges, to shift the client’s focus onto individual responsibility and coping skills. These skills will assist in long-term, sustained recovery.
Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)
In the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), you will have the flexibility to keep a normal daily routine, while working on sobriety with group and individual therapy. This is a good option for those who cannot leave their job, school, or family for an extended time. It gives continued support, through therapy groups, to apply the new skills learned through treatment to everyday life.
It is recommended to shift to the Intensive Outpatient Program after completing our residential treatment program. The IOP creates opportunities for positive friendships with other people in recovery. A healthy support system will provide alternatives when presented with challenges or temptations.
This program is most beneficial to those who have family members who are ready or able to provide positive recovery support, a solid social network to support recovery, and a low risk of relapse after treatment.
Virtual Intensive Outpatient (VIOP)
The Virtual Intensive Outpatient Program (VIOP) is a virtual option for continued care after completing our residential treatment program. Meetings and therapy take place via a special telehealth platform. This is an option for those who traveled from out of town for residential treatment and want to continue their outpatient treatment. The virtual meetings will help keep you on track and provide additional support when returning to families, jobs, and other responsibilities.
This option is beneficial for those with a low risk of relapse who have a solid social network, or family support system, with loved ones ready and able to provide positive recovery support.
Aftercare
Recovery is a very individual process that is different for everybody. After residential treatment, patients are encouraged to remain in aftercare treatment for as long as they need to, so they feel supported and confident in their skills and ability to succeed out in the world. With our sober living affiliate homes, our alumni program, and our outpatient programs, nobody needs to feel like they are alone in their recovery. There is always support available.
Sober Living
Sober living is an important step for patients who have completed residential treatment and either don’t have stable housing to return to or want to continue with a more structured support system to help them prepare for living on their own. They typically have structured rules and requirements in places like curfews, drug testing, house chores, and house meetings. Resurgence can refer patients to trusted partners who provide high-quality sober living options.
Alumni Program
Addiction recovery support does not stop once you leave rehab. Resurgence has a strong voluntary alumni network to help people remain connected to a positive and sober community, long after completing treatment. We host alumni activities like reunions, gatherings, group outings, and barbecues. This group of people offers friendship and mentorship, and a lasting support system you can always reach out to, long after completing treatment.

Couples Rehab
When both members of a couple are dealing with drug addiction, and only one goes through a rehab program, it could be difficult to avoid relapse once returning home. Rehabilitating together can improve and strengthen a relationship, and creates an instant support system, as you work together toward recovery.
Resurgence offers couples rehab as an option, with individual and family therapies available.
Pet Friendly Rehab
When deciding whether to enter a rehab facility, finding a pet-friendly rehab center can make your decision easier. Resurgence is a pet-friendly rehab facility. While in recovery, you won’t have to worry about finding pet care, or worry that your pet isn’t being taken care of properly.
We believe the unconditional love of your pet can provide companionship, and emotional support, helping with feelings of stress or depression. Having a pet around can improve the physical and mental states of being.

Does My Insurance Have Coverage For Rehab? Mental Health Services Administration
Rehab treatment is covered by insurance. Under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) of 2010, and the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equality Act (MHPAEA), mental health and addiction services are counted as essential health benefits. Each insurance plan covers different types and amounts of medications and therapies, so a conversation with your insurance provider will help you determine how much of your addiction treatment is covered.
We also offer payment plans for cash patients also known as payment assistance. We want to help and will work with your unique situation. Resurgence wants to be the treatment center to help you or someone you love.
Medically Assisted Treatment (MAT)
Medical Assisted Treatment (MAT) is a combination of FDA-approved medications, counseling, and behavioral therapies, to tackle the biological, and behavioral components of opioid addiction while helping the patient overcome physical withdrawal symptoms.
Medical Assisted Treatment uses medications like methadone and buprenorphine as a maintenance treatment, to satisfy cravings without the euphoric high. This will stop withdrawal symptoms in a safe, medical setting. When these medications are used following prescription amounts under a doctor’s supervision, they will not create a new addiction and are successful in helping reduce the risk of relapse.
Because this treatment focuses on the whole patient, rather than just the physical symptoms of withdrawal, Medical Assisted Treatment is proven in improving a patient’s survival rate, and their ability to live a self-directed life, without dependency on substances.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a common therapeutic model for treating substance disorders. It focuses on treating underlying behaviors and emotional disorders, modifying behavior and thought patterns leading to substance use and relapse. It deconstructs destructive behavior, helps patients find the reason behind substance dependency, and finds alternate ways of dealing with the problem. The brain is retrained to avoid negative behaviors.
Cognitive behavioral therapy is useful to treat co-occurring disorders because it treats a variety of mental disorders like trauma, anxiety, and depression, as well as addiction.
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) is a type of cognitive behavioral therapy common in treating addiction. It emphasizes the psychosocial aspects of substance use, helping a patient understand their social and emotional reasons behind their substance use, replace negative emotions and behaviors with positive ones, identify self-destructive behaviors, and then work to change their responses.
DBT is especially suitable for people who face addiction issues, as well as co-occurring mental health disorders, like trauma, anxiety, or depression, as these disorders tend to stem from the same underlying reason as addiction. DBT integrates mindfulness, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness, and emotional regulation.
Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT)
Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy focuses on the patient’s perspective on an issue, reasoning that most situations are not inherently good or bad, it just depends on how you think about them. For addiction, REBT educates patients on living a better, more fulfilling life without substance use. It challenges patients about their own thoughts and responses, and their emotions related to addiction with logical, positive responses.
Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy can be used in dual diagnosis addiction treatment. It addresses the underlying issues and replaces harmful behaviors with healthy coping techniques.

Dual Diagnosis
Resurgence uses dual diagnosis treatment when a patient displays signs of having co-occurring disorders, like a mental health disorder alongside a substance use disorder.
Sometimes, when a person with co-occurring disorders receives treatment for addiction, their mental health will seem to worsen. It can be difficult to diagnose co-occurring disorders, as symptoms of substance abuse can disguise symptoms of mental illness and vice versa. A person diagnosed with a mental illness may use drugs or alcohol to feel better, which will prevent them from developing coping skills, having satisfying relationships, and feeling comfortable with themselves. Alcohol will also interfere with mental health medication prescriptions.
At Resurgence, we know that co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders impact one another, and they need to be treated at the same time, in the same place, by the same treatment team, using integrated treatment.
EMDR
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is an approach to treating trauma, panic, anxiety, and other psychological symptoms by reconnecting the client to the images, thoughts, emotions, and body sensations associated with trauma in a safe and measured way.
The basis of EMDR is the idea that traumatic experiences overwhelm the brain’s capacity to heal. It is theorized that the area of the brain that processes memories has become “stuck” because of trauma, preventing the brain from proper processing and storage of the memory.
During EMDR, these brain-healing processes can be completed using dual awareness, where a client re-experiences the trauma in the context of a safe environment. The patient will safely reprocess the traumatic information until it is not psychologically disruptive anymore. They will gain insight regarding the disturbing event, and their own thoughts surrounding the event.
EMDR therapy has been endorsed by the American Psychiatric Association and the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies.
Relapse Prevention
Resurgence offers extra support to those who have completed their detox, and their stay within our inpatient rehabilitation program. Of course, every guest at resurgence has the option, and is encouraged to stay as long as they need, to feel ready to confidently live a sober life in the outside world.
There are numerous outpatient programs for those who would like continued support and guidance from our trained and caring staff, such as:
- Partial Hospitalization Program, where people transitioning from inpatient rehab can still receive strong support, therapy, and guidance from staff, while using their recovery skills in the real world.
- Intensive Outpatient Program, a step down from the partial hospitalization program, where the client can maintain a normal daily life, while continuing to work on sobriety with group and individual therapy.
- Virtual Outpatient Program, which is completely online, through a special telehealth platform, a great option for those who do not live near a Resurgence facility, but still want the support and care of Resurgence outpatient treatments.
If a person doesn’t feel they have a supportive place to live, or would just like a more structured living situation, Resurgence can refer them to trusted partners who provide high-quality sober living arrangements. There will be house rules, like curfews, drug tests, and chores, and is a great way to prepare for independence.
The Resurgence alumni network also fosters a caring, open, sober community. Join our group outings, gatherings, and barbecues to foster friendships with like-minded people who know what you are going through, and can help.

Life Skills Training
At Resurgence, we offer life skills training programs, to provide the tools needed to navigate the challenges of life, without the use of substances. These are a set of abilities that can help you handle problems, make decisions, communicate, and take responsibility, including self-management, going to work, social skills, cleaning, and resistance skills related to drug use. Life skills are important for learning to maintain a normal routine and a schedule, live independently and take care of one’s body with food, exercise, and hygiene.
Vocational Training
A substance abuse disorder can be a barrier to employment, and at Resurgence, our treatment plan works with those needing vocational skills to enter the workforce. Many individuals who have had substance abuse disorders have never been in the workforce, and have not held regular jobs before, because employment has not been a goal or focus in their life. Working, and self-sufficiency are important steps to living a healthy, independent, sober life. Employment can give opportunities to meet new, sober friends, and develop new social skills, establish financial independence, and give structure to each day.
Group Therapy
Group therapy is a form of psychotherapy, where a group of patients gathers and discusses issues under the supervision of one or more therapists or psychologists.
Groups can act as a sounding board. You can gain a network of like-minded people who can hold you accountable for your actions. The group can brainstorm and help each other find answers to problems. Talking and listening to others helps put issues into perspective, and it can be a relief to hear that others are struggling too. It can be beneficial to see how other people tackle their problems, develop self-awareness, and gain new strategies and perspectives.
People benefit from giving support to others. Group therapy can also promote social skills, allowing you to express opinions and issues, and accept criticism from others.

Experiential Therapy
Experiential therapy is a technique that uses expressive tools and activities, like art, role-playing, and recreation to re-experience emotional situations from the past. Through these activities, the patient can identify underlying emotions, and a trained experiential therapist will guide them through releasing and exploring anger, hurt, or shame.
Experiential therapy is used most often to treat grief, trauma, anger management, and substance abuse. It works under the premise that perception determines behavior, so by re-experiencing the repressed negative emotions from the past while experiencing something neutral or positive, reframing emotional responses is easier.
One On One Therapy
Individual Therapy, also known as Psychotherapy, Counseling, or Talk Therapy, is a process between a therapist and a patient, to improve quality of life, and to get help with issues that are hard to face alone.
Individual Therapy is useful when a person feels overwhelmed, unhappy, or hopeless, or if an issue causes distress or interferes with everyday life. A trained therapist can help identify underlying causes of symptoms and provide strategies to stop unwanted thoughts and behaviors. Therapy can provide skills for handling difficult situations, reduce stress, and improve quality of life. Even if therapy on its own cannot cure a condition, it can help a person develop healthy coping skills.

Family Therapy
Family therapy is a short-term type of counseling that helps family members resolve conflicts and improve their communication. It is used to deepen family connections, get through stressful times, and improve troubled relationships. Each family treatment plan is different, as family situations are all unique. Any situation that causes grief, stress, anger, or conflict can be helped during family therapy.
In the case of addiction, sometimes the family will participate in family therapy while the person who has the addiction is in residential treatment, to gain skills so they can offer the best support possible to their loved one. Families may also attend therapy together to identify any issues, roles, and behavior that contribute to conflict and find ways to work through these issues.
The skills learned at family therapy can be used long after the sessions are over. It can help family members understand one another better and bring you closer together.
Trauma Informed Therapy (After PTSD)
Trauma-Informed therapy acknowledges that health care workers need to have a complete picture of a person’s life situation, both past, and present, to provide a healing environment. Trauma-informed practices can improve patient engagement and treatment outcomes, as the provider will know the signs of trauma, avoid re-traumatization, and ensure the patient feels safe.
At Resurgence, we realize the importance of building and maintaining trust, with transparent and open decision-making, collaboration, and empowerment. People who have experienced traumas may have difficulty being open and trusting with health care providers. At Resurgence, we are trained to recognize and address trauma, both clinically and psychologically.
Physical Fitness
On top of improving mental health, regular exercise can reduce the risk of relapse for people in recovery. Working out adds structure to the day, exercising and sports can distract you from cravings, and sports can help meet other people interested in fitness, and form other positive social connections.
When used in combination with therapy, medication, and other treatments, exercise can play a part in creating a healthy, happy, sober lifestyle. At Resurgence there is a gym to work out in, as well as basketball and volleyball games, ping pong tables, and a corn hole game. There is also equine therapy.

his is a classic Keep Austin Weird destination. In a suburban backyard, in South Austin, you will find the Cathedral of Junk, created by Vince Hannemann. This is a structure composed of 60 tons of discarded items, with bicycles as the majority of the framework and decoration. The cathedral was begun in 1989 and is still a work in progress. This is a controversial structure, with neighbor complaints that spurred city engineers to search for safety issues, but none were found, and the structure was deemed safe. Call ahead to book an appointment to see this work of art, or be stuck on the “chair of despair”.
